Transform your garden - a quick guide to paving and aggregates

Garden paving and decorative aggregates - like pebbles, chippings, slates and cobbles, are a great addition to any garden. Great for stylish garden paths and patios, theyre also perfect for creating attractive garden design features that will really enhance your outdoor space.

In this quick guide, we take a look at a few of the different kinds of paving and aggregates, and how you can use them to transform your gardens.

Paving Kits

These all-in one kits are easy to use, and provide all the paving you need to create attractive, stylish patio areas and garden features.

At Keen Gardener, we offer a wide selection of paving kits available in sizes to suit a variety of spaces. In addition to block style paving for covering larger areas, youll also find circular and square designed paving kits, ideal for creating smaller paved sanctuaries at the end of paths in your landscaped garden.

Style wise, the choices are virtually limitless. With everything from traditional, rustic natural stone finishes in a range of colours, to more contemporary slate and brick “ theres something to suit every garden and preference.

Pebbles and chippings

Simple, natural and really hardwearing, pebbles and chippings can be used to great effect in any garden.

Whether youre looking to create natural paths, or want to use them around your plants to separate borders or to keep down the weeds, the right pebbles and stone chippings can really enhance your outdoor space.

Youll find pebbles in a huge range of different sizes, shapes, materials and colours at Keen Gardener. For traditional gardens, why not go for a Cotswold or Yorkshire stone? Alternatively, you can achieve a more contemporary look by using blue slate chippings, or white pearl gravel.

Rockeries

Rockeries are really versatile. Theyre a great way of bringing texture and impact to a flat garden, and are also a good way of making use of any awkward slopes!

For a natural look, go for rough shaped, flat and characterful stones, ideally in a regional material. Smooth, spherical stones tend to look better in more modern garden designs.

Building a rockery is hard work, but really rewarding. Start at the bottom and work your way up, making sure you thoroughly embed each rock into the ground to avoid garden landslides.

When picking plants for your rockery, slow growing plants that like dry soil are the best choice - alpines work particularly well.

Cobbles

Chunky cobbles are a great option for adding texture and interest in a low maintenance garden.

They are ideal for keeping your garden looking neat and tidy “ position them at the edges of your lawn, or around your flowerbeds to define the different spaces in a natural way. They also work particularly well as the edging surrounding your ponds, paths and borders.

At Keen Gardener, youll find a wide selection of chunky cobblestones in a number of different colours. These include a range of seaside cobbles, as well as woodland-inspired stones.
