What is Techmar Low Voltage Lighting?

The Techmar range of low voltage lighting is a modular 12 volt lighting system designed specifically for the garden. It includes a wide range of different accent and task lighting, including spotlights, bollard/post lights, recessed lights, underwater lights and decorative lights.

Designed for use all around the garden, the Techmar lighting system includes products to match a wide range of different styles and preferences, so you can design a unique system that complements your garden perfectly.

It’s a really versatile system, and you can have multiple different kinds and styles of lights, fittings and bulbs, all running from the same system, and expand it with the addition of new lights and power sources as you see fit.

How does it work?

Techmar lighting systems couldn’t be easier to set up – they feature a really simple plug and play system for quick, safe installation, without any specialist tools or expertise. To set up your own Techmar system, all you have to do is:

Plan your lighting

Get a plan of your garden, and think about what you’re trying to achieve, and where you want to light.

Select your lights

Head over to the low voltage lighting section of our store and select the Techmar lights you want. You’ll find a huge selection of lights in different sizes and styles, with something to suit every garden.

Choose your transformer

Add up all the different watts of your lights, then select a transformer that’s large enough to cope. If you’re planning on extending your lighting scheme in the future, then it’s sensible to choose a larger transformer with some spare capacity.

Get the cabling

Work out how much cabling you need to connect your system. Remember, you’ll need a main cable, some connectors for your system, and extension cords and dividers if you’re planning to run multiple different lighting systems.

Install

Plug it all in, and you’re ready to go. Whilst you won’t need to bury the cables, it’s a good idea, as it will look better, and protect cables from garden tools, pets and children.

Why low voltage?

Perhaps the biggest advantage of low voltage systems like the Techmar range is that you can do everything yourself, without the need to call an electrician.

They’re really safe, and you won’t have to worry about electrocuting yourself during installation, or your children or pets being harmed once the system is in.

There is a huge range of different lamps and styles of lighting available, and the bulbs are extremely energy efficient (sometimes 2x as efficient as 240v lamps). 12v circuits are also less susceptible to damp, and tend to be easier to repair than 240v circuits.

The only downside is that you will need to use transformers, but this isn’t as big a hurdle as you might imagine.
