New Plant Protection Tunnels

Cold weather, particularly frost, causes the water in plant cells to freeze, damaging the cell wall. Even hardy plants and tough evergreens can be damaged by prolonged spells of severe cold when soil becomes frozen. When freezing temperatures are expected, gardeners must take measures to protect outdoor plants from freezing. Protecting plants from the cold for a short period of time is fairly simple and Keengardener have a new range of tunnels which will last through the season and many more to come.

Cloches and tunnels come in a variety of designs and are used for protecting plants from the cold and frosts. A garden cloche differs from greenhouses and cold frames in that cloches are placed over plants in their existing position, unlike cold frames and greenhouses which require the plants to be potted up and placed inside.

For faster and healthier plant growth, the Bio Green Tunnels are a water-permeable or UV-stabilised pre-assembled system which you simply pop up, peg into the ground and close to protect a group of plants. The three varieties are available in two sizes (mini and maxi):

The Bio Green Fleece Tunnel creates warmth and insulation, and protects plants from frost, wind, sun hail and pests.

The Bio Green Poly Tunnel retains moisture for max humidity, and protects plants from frost and harsh weather.

Dimensions of the Mini size is 3.30m (L) x 0.50m (W) x 0.34m (H) and the Maxi is 3.30m (L) x 0.65m (W) x 0.45m (H).
